Quinn loved the summer time as it was a chance for her to take a break from her studying and just be herself. Well, even more know that she doesn't have to deal with her ex anymore. The young girl sighed and shook her head, both mentally and physically, as she didn't..no wouldn't think of him. She promised herself once he went away that she wouldn't give him any more power than she did when they were in a relationship. She already cleaned up her room and started on the summer homework that she got from her honors classes. Except it wasn't enough. Quinn didn't feel like at the moment that she wanted to do any drills for soccer to keep up with them. She needed to get out of her house though as it felt suffocating. The real place she wanted to go to was La Push but since that weird castle came and all of her people were out of their homes Quinn didn't feel like it was her safe place anymore. So instead the young girl put on her jacket and headed out of her house after leaving her family a note. She told them that she was headed into the woods for a bit. Quinn got into the woods and just started walking. She headed deeper in before looking around to make sure she was alone and let out a scream. Sometimes she needed to find someplace alone to just scream and apparently she really needed that since after she was done she noticed that she was shaking and crying. She hated these moments that she relapsed. Those moments first start off with thinking about her ex then unknowingly or more like unwittingly got back into that headspace and sometimes the best way for her to get out of it was by screaming and it was only after that did she go back to being heragain. The her that she always was before he took over her life. BENJAMIN NATHANIEL CARTER

It had been a few months since Ben had arrived in Forks and almost as long that he had been keeping an eye on the youngest member of the Stanley family - Quinn. To start with Ben had felt sure that it was nothing more than a bogus assignment, something to keep him busy while Aro worked on whatever devious plan it was that he was cooking up this time, but now he knew that it had been worth it after all. Ben was meant to be watching over Quinn and figuring out whether she had inherited the shield ability that Bella had, something that Aro was sure might have been passed down through the generations of her family, and it seemed that he was right. Ben had ruled out a few other members of the family as having that ability but when it came to Quinn, he was sure that she had something similar. He hadn't wanted to join the Volturi but unfortunately being a witness for the Cullens had painted a target on his back. Aro had killed Tia and had threatened to kill Amun and Kebi too unless Ben joined them. Unable to watch two other people he loved die for him, Ben had agreed. He had loved Tia and he knew a part of him always would but the moment he saw Quinn it was like he had woken up from a deep sleep. Her blood called out to him and for the first time he knew what it had been like for Edward with Bella. Ben had watched over Quinn from a distance through everything she had gone through with her ex and when the guy had wanted to try and suck her back in, Ben had scared the guy into leaving town and never contacting her again. He had introduced himself to Quinn not too long after that but he hadn't yet told her the truth about what he was. She was so young and she had already been through so much so Ben knew that he didn't want to add to it. That was what he kept telling himself, anyway. It wasn't just that her blood sang to him in a way no one else's ever had, he felt a connection to her that was different to anything he had ever felt before. Being around her wasn't easy and he often felt like his throat was burning but it was worth it to be near her and he was doing everything in his power to keep his bloodlust under control. As it was he was nearby when he heard the scream having just returned from a hunt as he refused to hunt on the reservation like so many others did. Ben had never liked the idea of feeding on those he might have seen around before and he hadn't let the Volturi change that about him. His stomach twisted in a knot as he recognised the voice and he sped off in that direction, only slowing to a walk once he was close enough and could see that she wasn't in any immediate danger. He couldn't smell any fresh blood on the breeze either which meant that she wasn't hurt. "I heard you scream, are you okay?" he asked as he approached before stopping as he realised she was crying. There was a part of him that wanted to pull her into his arms and comfort her but he wasn't sure that was what she would want so instead he stayed where he was. "What's wrong, Quinn?" he asked gently as he looked over at her. QUINN JESSICA STANLEY

Don’t get her wrong Quinn loved the fact that her ex wasn’t around anymore. Especially how often she got hurt from just talking to her male cousins, friends, or even worse if she had a joint assignment with another male, he wasn’t happy to see it. Quinn knew deep in her heart that she must let these memories go so that she could move on with her life. Though she knew, as well, that could take a while to accomplish. Except somehow being near Ben made Quinn not only forget about what happened to her but he also made her feel happy and better than any other time. She didn’t know how that happened, but it does whenever she’s near him. Of course, that was only when they first met and she at first thought that she was dreaming except she did see him out of the corner of her eye watching her for some reason. Quinn also had a gut feeling that just her and her family scared off her ex, but she had no proof. The only proof she had was her feeling revealed that he was gone. Quinn started to wipe away her tears before she even noticed that Ben heard her screaming. She wished so hard that she could go to La Push and just feel the comfort all around of her being near her people. Except she can’t go there since the last time she did Quinn felt someone watching her from the castle. Quinn knew that couldn’t be it and that she was still feeling the aftereffects like she always will for a while of being on high alert around her ex. She rubbed her arms and willed herself to stop thinking about him. Quinn looked up when she heard Ben ask her if she was okay. She looked over at him and nodded “Yeah, I’m sorry I thought I was alone out here. I just needed to scream…basically its my way of letting out my frustrations when I don’t want to pretend my soccer ball is someone’s head.” She continued to wipe away her tears and smiled weakly at Ben while wishing he didn’t see her at her lowest point. Maybe she should have stayed home and kicked her soccer ball in the yard. “I’m okay nothing’s wrong. I just... I’m still working on not being afraid or thinking of him. Some days its good and today is one of the bad days when I just unknowingly think about him, and I thought getting away from my house and family for a bit would help.” She shrugged before looking down hating how small she felt because of what he did even though she has worked so hard on overcoming everything. Quinn then thought about the box she found of his stuff in her room buried deeply in her closet that she uncovered today. She knew that she needed to burn those things and then maybe just maybe she would be done. BENJAMIN NATHANIEL CARTER

For a long time after Tia died, Ben had existed but he hadn’t really lived. He had done whatever the Volturi had asked him to do because it had been easier to do that than find a way to come to terms with the pain he was feeling. He knew that he would always love Tia but he also knew wasn’t sure that he wanted to continue living his life alone. He had left Amun and Kebi behind because he had known that Aro would follow through on his promise and kill both of them the same way he had killed Tia if he had decided to stay with them but to this day, he still missed them. He wasn’t used to having people in his life that he cared about these days but Quinn had become that person for him. Ben had reached out to a friend and tested her shield ability from a distance, not trusting anyone in the Volturi not to feed the information back to Aro, and thankfully Ben hadn’t given Aro any reason to doubt him over the years so the vampire hadn’t tried to read his mind. Ben was still trying to figure out how to keep Quinn safe and he knew that scaring off her ex was just the start. There was going to come a time when he was going to have to make a choice and Ben already knew that if it came down to her life or his then he would give his life up to protect her in an instant. He had never felt anything this intense before but he knew that he would do anything in his power to keep her safe even if that meant going against the Volturi. “Don’t apologise,” Ben said gently. “I thought something bad had happened to you.” It wasn’t outside the realms of possibility, she was a target to Aro and there were other vampires in the town but she was alright and that was all that mattered. Letting his eyes skim over her quickly to make sure that she really wasn’t hurt, Ben’s hands unclenched from the fists he had made without even realising it. As she said that she was still working on not being afraid of her ex, Ben’s expression softened and in a split second he made a decision. Making his way forward, he wrapped his arms around Quinn and hugged her for a moment before letting go. “It will get easier, I promise,” he assured her. She had already been through so much and there was a part of Ben that knew he needed to tell her that she needed to get out of Forks or at least watch her back but the truth was he wasn’t sure how to do that. She was already dealing with more than she should at her age and Ben knew that he didn’t want to add to it. “How about we go for a walk?” he suggested. “You can talk about it if you want to, or if you don’t then that’s fine too,” he offered. Talking about things was meant to help but Ben wasn’t really an expert on that. He hadn’t talked to anyone about Tia after she died and he hadn’t told anyone about the connection he felt to Quinn. By now Ben was used to keeping things to himself but he knew deep down the damage it was causing and he didn’t want that for Quinn. QUINN JESSICA STANLEY

Thankfully for Quinn she had the support of her family around once everything settled down and she told them the truth. At school they have her seeing the counselor there, which helps a bit but also talking with them did as well. Technically according to the school counselor, she is improving a lot better than most and she knew there was one other thing that she had to do. She just hasn’t done it yet. To write a letter to him about what he did and how that made her feel. Except instead of mailing, it off she had to burn it along with anything else that she had of his. The reason she hasn’t done it yet is because she isn’t ready yet to face those demons. Those demons being the memories in the box. The good and the bad ones. Quinn knew though that summer would be the great time to do it before the start of her senior year of high school. Except she can’t help but shake the feeling that even with Ben around that someone has been watching her. Quinn also knew that something is going on with her siblings as well. Or at least she can tell when they come home to visit some of them are hot to the touch and if the legends were true then Quinn doesn’t know what or how to think about that. She looked at Ben and nodded her head before smiling at him. “Nope nothing bad I promise.” And for once she actually meant a promise that she is making. Well besides the one to use caution next time she wants to get into a relationship. Though she knew that if anyone wanted to get close to her, they would have to get through Ben since he was always on her mind since she first met him. Quinn didn’t want to think about that since she didn’t want him to realize that a she was thinking about him all the time or that b she was thinking about wanting to start something with him when she barely knows him or even more that they haven’t known each other for long. Except when Quinn is around him she feels lighter and that whatever she has to say is important to him which she has never had. She hugged him back when he wrapped his arms around her and didn’t want to let go but knew she had to and looked up at him. “I know. I’ve been talking to the school counselor and according to him I just have one last step to take to ‘finally be released from his hold’ as he calls it.” According to her counselor and her parents that she is stronger than she looks and can handle anything that is thrown at her. Part of her thought that was because of how she was raised even if another part thinks that they are wrong and that she is just broken. She nodded at what Ben asked her. “A walk sounds nice actually. Well, that is what I am supposed to be doing instead of screaming into the forest. My grandpa used to tell me that I remind him of a woman from one of the Quileute legends because of how stubborn I was growing up but he also said that it was my connection to our land that proved it as well. I guess that could be another reason why it took him so long to break me...” She started to walk in whatever direction that Ben wanted to go to. She then started to blush as she realized how she was rambling about things that probably made no sense to Ben. BENJAMIN NATHANIEL CARTER

It had been a long time since Ben had last let himself feel anything. After losing Tia and having to leave Amun and Kebi behind it had seemed easier to drift through his existence without feeling anything. He had done everything that Aro and the others had asked of him and he knew that he wasn't really living but a part of him had realised that it was easier that way. If he detached himself from this existence he had found himself thrown into in order to save the lives of Amun and Kebi after failing to save Tia, perhaps later he could convince himself that it wasn't really him. He had lost the only family he'd had in one fell swoop and even though Amun and Kebi were still out there somewhere, Ben wasn't sure that he would ever get to see them again. Right now all he had left of them were the memories and for a long time even they had been too painful. He hadn't really let himself grieve after losing Tia and ever since then it had felt like he was drifting through each day in a daze. Somehow the only person who had been able to make him snap out of it was Quinn. The moment he first saw her it had awoken something inside of him but then he had caught her scent on the breeze and he knew that he would never forget the painful burning in his throat that had followed. He had wanted to drain every drop of blood from her body there and then but somehow, even now he wasn't quite sure how, he had managed to resist. He had kept an eye on her from a distance at first, seeing her strength and courage as she had finally stood up to her ex, and during that time he had gotten used to being around her before finally starting to integrate himself into her life when he couldn't resist getting to know her any longer. Now the burning in his throat was still there but it was more manageable and his head was no longer filled with different ways of taking her life. Instead Ben was filled with a need to protect her and that was stronger than anything else right now even though he wasn't entirely sure why. He hadn't felt this way about anyone since Tia but what he felt for this one human girl was already so much more intense. That in itself was a little scary but Ben knew that he just needed to go with it. So far she didn't seen to have noticed that there was anything different about him and there was a part of Ben that was curious about just how much she knew about the supernatural world. He had an advantage that other vampires didn't have, his ability meant that he was able to warm the air around him so his skin didn't feel ice cold to the touch the way it did for other vampires and he had taken to wearing contacts when he knew that he would be seeing Quinn so she didn't notice his red eyes. He hadn't known he would be seeing her that day but he had put some in out of habit anyway just in case and he was grateful for that now. "I'm glad," he said sincerely as Quinn insisted that nothing bad had happened. Ben knew that he would have stepped in to help her if it had but he was glad she hadn't found herself in that position. He knew that he perhaps shouldn't have hugged Quinn but she'd looked like she needed it and the truth was that Ben hadn't been able to resist. He knew that he was getting too close, he should be pulling away rather than drawing her in, but he couldn't seen to stay away. Now he finally knew how Edward had felt when he’d found Bella. As Quinn mentioned the final step her school counselor had suggested she take, Ben studied her carefully for a moment. "What's the final step?" he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. As she agreed to a walk, Ben nodded and started leading the way. He hadn't consciously picked a direction but they were heading in the direction of the meadow. As Quinn said her grandfather said he reminded her of the Quileute woman from a legend, his expression turned thoughtful for a moment. "Which legend?" he asked, curious as to whether it was the one he was thinking of which told the story of his kind and Quinn's ancestors. If she knew that story then perhaps she did know a little about his world at least. As she said it could be why it took so long for her ex to break her, Ben came to a stop and turned to look at her. "He didn't break you. You're still standing and moving forward a little each day even after everything he put you through and that makes you the strongest person I know."QUINN JESSICA STANLEY

Quinn knew that the last step was to burn everything that was in the box, but she also knew that she needed to be careful about doing that. She couldn’t help but wonder if her parents would even let her do it in their backyard that weekend. The sooner she gets it done, the better off she would be. This is something that she knows but doesn’t make it any easier on her. Quinn couldn’t help but wonder if the Quileute legends could be real since all legends have a touch of reality mixed in them. Except there was no such thing as shapeshifters or vampires. Quinn knew that but, in her mind, she couldn’t help but wonder what if they were. Most of her siblings and cousins are acting weird. At least the ones on her mom’s side of the family, not really her dad’s. She has noticed that they are warmer than usual, but she also tells herself that is because she’s always been cold recently. The cold she’s been feeling isn’t because she hasn’t been feeling well it’s just the way she’s been but keeping active with her soccer has helped a lot. Quinn’s mind couldn’t help but think that there might be something different with Ben like everything else in her life. Except she knew that in her head that she just wanted an explanation about why Ben would even be interested in getting to know her. He was older than her and Quinn knew her track record, which at this point is literally only with one guy who turned into an abusive maniac, was older than her. She knows that Ben wouldn’t harm her as he has been nothing but sweet and helping her out with getting over the maniac. Quinn was put into some self defense classes so she knows how to protect herself and a teeny tiny part of her, okay more of a big part of her, is glad that Ben was near for a just in case she needed help. When Ben went to hug her a part of her wanted to flinch away but she’s glad that she didn’t or that wasn’t the first thing that she does anymore. Quinn actually felt better and more at peace with herself in his arms. For Quinn that was a first for her if it wasn’t her own father that hugged her. She didn’t want it to end but knew that it had to end as she couldn’t keep all of Ben’s time. Even though Quinn had no clue what Ben even did when he wasn’t around her. She looked up at him and sighed before unknowingly twirling her hair around her finger. “To take all of his belongings that I still have in my possession even if it’s a gift and um burn it.” She looked down and licked her lips “I’ve been putting it off but I think that either this weekend or sooner I might end up just doing it. I have everything in a box buried in my closet as I can’t look at it.”Quinn followed his path not knowing where they were going and so she looked down at the ground while she was talking before looking up when she felt confident enough not to fall on any tree roots. She smiled as she remembered what her grandfather said and the way she felt safe in his arms. “The one about the Cold Ones aka vampires and how some of our people can shift into wolves to protect our land.” She still felt like he broke her in some way and she knew that was what he wanted her to feel. She looked at Ben and nodded her head. “Some days it didn’t feel like it Ben. But thank you for saying it.” She smiled weakly at him before rubbing a phantom bruise that she sometimes feels on her arm. She then noticed that they got to the meadow and was shocked. “I’ve lived here all of my life and I’ve never seen this place before..” Quinn was honestly surprised at how beautiful the place looked. Ben knew that his life and Quinn’s were worlds apart even without taking into account the fact that he was a vampire. He grew up in Egypt as a street performer doing everything he could in order to raise money to support his uncle and the other kids after his parents died and after that he had found himself hidden away from the world by Amun. It was only after joining the Cullens against the Volturi that Ben had really started to live his own life but then he had found himself trapped once more when he joined the Volturi. He knew what was expected of him, they wanted him to report back that Quinn had a shield ability like Bella did and Aro would then no doubt either want to use her against Bella and the Cullens or he would turn her and force her to join the Volturi. Those were the only two scenarios that made sense and Ben knew that he didn’t want either of those things to happen. He knew deep down that he should just stay away from Quinn and act like there wasn’t anything different about her or anyone in her family but the truth was that he couldn’t bring himself to do that. He had made sure that her ex stayed far away from her and he knew that he wanted to keep her safe from the Volturi as well. He was used to the burn in his throat that occurred every time he was around Quinn by now and he had purposefully exposed himself to her scent so he would become desensitised to it. The burn was still there but it was nowhere near as bad as it had been at first. She was his singer but much like Edward had done with Bella, Ben was determined to keep Quinn safe for as long as possible. That was why he was able to hug her now but he was still careful to make sure that he didn’t stay too close to her for too long. He had developed a good deal of control over the centuries but he still knew that he didn’t want to take the risk and accidentally hurt Quinn. As she explained what the final step was meant to be, Ben found himself nodding. “That makes sense,” he nodded. “You don’t have to do anything before you’re ready but if you don’t want to do it alone, just let me know,” he said gently, knowing that he wouldn’t hesitate in being there with her while she burned everything if that was what she wanted. Truth be told the thought had crossed his mind to get rid of everything himself after he scared her ex off but he knew that it was an important step for Quinn to take and he knew that he couldn’t take that away from her no matter how much he might want to spare her that pain. Even without realising it Ben wanted to share somewhere special with Quinn. That was the explanation that came to mind when he realised that he was leading them in the direction of the meadow and he knew that it was true. He had taken to spending a lot of time there since the Volturi took over the reservation, it was peaceful and being there meant that he didn’t have to fend off any questions from the rest of the guard so it had become one of his favourite places quite quickly. As Quinn explained about the legend she was referring to, Ben knew that he needed to tread carefully. It was forbidden to tell humans about vampires unless they were going to be turned or killed and Ben knew that he didn’t want to put any more of a target on Quinn’s back than there already was. Then again, he knew there was a chance that at least some of her family members were shifters so this was a little different. “What do you think of those legends?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious as to whether she believed them or whether she thought they were just stories. “I can imagine but every day it will get a little bit easier. Just hang in there,” Ben said, offering her a smile in return as they reached the meadow. “You haven’t?” he asked, surprised by that revelation. “It’s one of my favourite places in the world.”QUINN JESSICA STANLEY

The burning aspect of the stupid exes had to happen before school started. She promised herself that when the therapist at her school told her about it. Quinn knew that it had to be done and it will be done as soon as she felt ready. Some people would think that meant that she should be ready now since it is her last step to finally be done with him. Ever since the castle arrived in La Push Quinn did feel like she had several eyes on her but she knew that it was just a feeling and that it wasn’t anything to worry about. Not like before. She nodded her head at what Ben said and smiled up at him. “I will keep that in mind. I know that I would like to do it before summer ends.” She would probably ask him to do that since it seems like her family have been doing other things lately hence why it was so easy to keep them from noticing what was happening until she just couldn’t anymore. Quinn has noticed that some of her siblings have been hot to the touch and she couldn’t help but wonder if the legends were real. Except she hasn’t felt anything different about herself and wondered if she was defected in that sense. Quinn couldn’t help but spin in a circle when they were in the meadow. It was a beautiful place and she wondered if she could find it on her own to come back to. The meadow would be a great place to just go and unwind for a bit but then she realized that is what soccer was for and she was getting better as she took much of her anger out about her ex on the soccer ball than anything else. She looked over at Ben with a big smile on her face even while talking about her peoples’ legends. She chewed on her lip a bit while thinking about how to answer him before deciding on the truth. “At first I just thought that they were just a myth. Like how some parents tell kids that if they don’t behave the boogeyman will get them but lately I don’t know I feel like their could be a truth to them.” She actually loved being in the meadow and didn’t want to leave this place. She nodded her head at what he said and shook her head “Nope it’s a new place for me and I actually feel at peace here like I did back at La Push. Now La Push doesn’t feel like a safe place anymore despite the tourists heading there.” Quinn smiled even more before looking up at him “Thank you for sharing this special place with me.”BENJAMIN NATHANIEL CARTER

It had been centuries since Ben was a child and he had honestly hoped that things would have gotten better over the years but it seemed that new dangers had replaced the old. For Quinn it had been an abusive ex and it had taken all of Ben’s self-restraint not to rip the boy limb from limb for what he had done to her. It would have made Ben feel better but he already knew that he had too much blood on his hands and he didn’t want to end up with any more. He had never given much thought to why the Cullens fed on animals rather than humans before, he had been taught that humans were food and it had been drilled into him enough that he had believed it. He had tried to only go after those he knew were bad people but that didn’t make it any better and it didn’t make him feel any less guilty. Now with how he felt about Quinn the thought of someone seeing her as their next meal was enough to make him angry. It had taken him a while to get used to her scent and the unique appeal it held for him and he had gone through a myriad of emotions since he first caught her scent. He had gone from wanting to kill her to hating her for smelling so good to him. A curiosity about her had followed as he had observed her followed by anger towards her ex when he found out what the guy was doing to her. By then he had seen that Quinn was a good person and he had wanted to protect her so he had scared her ex away. Now those feelings had transformed into something different entirely. He still wanted to protect her but it ran so much deeper than that now – it was love. He wasn’t sure that he was ready to accept that just yet but he knew that he would give his life for hers in an instant if that was what it took to protect her. The ache in his throat was still there but he had grown used to it now and there were times when he welcomed it. It helped keep him grounded and he knew that he would do whatever he had to in order to keep her safe. As Quinn said she would keep his offer in mind, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “You have my number. If you want me there or if you need me for anything else, just give me a call.” Chances were he would probably be pretty close by anyway but Quinn didn’t need to know that. Ben had a charade he needed to keep up with the Volturi, he had garnered enough goodwill with them over the years that Aro didn’t feel the need to see his thoughts and trusted what Ben had to tell him since he could spare the details but he knew he needed to make sure it stayed that way. It would take only moments for Aro to learn that Quinn had an ability similar to Bella’s and find out what she meant to Ben and it would take Marcus just as long to use his own ability to get to the bottom of all that. Ben knew that he couldn’t give them any reason not to trust him so he had to tread carefully but he still intended on watching over Quinn as much as he could. Deep down Ben knew he probably shouldn’t have taken Quinn to the meadow, it would be too easy to lose control and kill her there and make sure that her body was never found but he knew that he would rather die. He had centuries of control under his belt and he knew that he wasn’t going to let it slip now, he couldn’t. That didn’t stop him from feeling curious about what Quinn thought of the legends she had heard about, though, and he studied her carefully as she said that now she was starting to feel like there could be truth to them. “What made you change your mind?” he asked, knowing that he needed to know whether she had figured out what he was or whether there was something different going on. He had been keeping an eye on various different members of her family and he knew that at least two of them were shifters but he wasn’t sure whether Quinn knew that. “You’re welcome,” Ben said, offering her a genuine smile as she thanked him for sharing the place with her. “La Push isn’t safe anymore, you’d do well to stay away from there,” he warned. He wanted to say more, he wanted to tell her about the Volturi and the target on her back but it was forbidden to tell humans about vampires and Ben wasn’t sure that he could take that innocence away from her and expose her to the horrors of his world anymore than he already was by being around her. “Besides, it’s far too noisy there now. Nothing like it used to be, I’ve heard,” he added quickly. He hadn’t been there before Aro bought the place but he knew that it had changed and he didn’t like the idea of Quinn putting herself in danger by getting too close to it. QUINN JESSICA STANLEY

Quinn’s life up to the point where she started to date the ex was great and then turned into her trying to keep her home life, school life, and dating all into separate compartments for her to deal with until they all started to converge thanks to her abuse. Now Quinn isn’t having them separate and she likes it that way. She also doesn’t need a reason to keep things all into their separate compartments anymore. Granted Quinn is trying hard not to think about Ben in a romantic way but it just couldn’t be helped since he was great to look at. Even some of her teammates noticed when they saw Quinn talking to him. Sure Quinn would like to keep Ben her secret but she is tired of secrets. Keeping them and hearing them. Except she had a feeling that her life might be getting more secretive than she would like. Quinn nodded her head at that and smiled “I will definitely do that Ben thanks.” She did have his number and had a problem of wanting to text him all the time as she liked their talks. Part of her was curious when he would be tired of her since they are two very different people and the other part of her is glad that he hasn’t gotten tired of talking to her or being in her company yet. Quinn was getting better at masking the parts of her that were wondering when Ben would realize that she was just a dumb teenager and just leave her be since that was the part of her that was scared the most. She liked being in Ben’s company and liked that he was easy to talk to and didn’t run off when he found out what happened to her. The meadow was such a beautiful place and couldn’t believe that she hadn’t found this place until Ben took her. Then again she had gotten busy with other things of more importance in her mind but she did love to have nature walks in the forest. She looked at him when he asked his question and wondered how she could answer then decided on just tell him the truth. Being honest is always the best choice or at least that is what she believed now. “I um honestly you…and two of my siblings but mostly you.” She hoped that he wouldn’t be upset by her saying him but after seeing him move too fast one time made her start to wonder if her ancestor’s legend was actually the truth. And if it was then how many of them were out there? She shook her head and smiled a genuine smile back at him and nodded her head. She heard his warning and knew even before he said that it wasn’t safe hence why she hasn’t gone back there in a while. She nodded his head again at his explanation. “It is definitely that. The beach was a great place to walk around and figure out some of my problems but now the forest will just have to do. If I don’t feel like thinking about my problems while practicing.” She ran her hand over some of the flowers while wondering how to tell Ben about what she saw him moving too fast for her to even see. It had been a long time since Ben had felt anything before Quinn came along. Truth be told he had been happy to shut himself off from everything after Tia left, Amun and Kebi had become his parents during the time he had lived with them and he’d had to leave them behind in order to save them from sharing the fate that Tia had. Even now Ben still blamed himself for her death, he didn’t regret agreeing to testify on behalf of the Cullens against the Volturi but he had caught Aro’s attention by doing so and Ben had perhaps been a little complacent in thinking that he could go back to his normal life. He had done so for years before Aro had come up with an excuse to go after them all and even though Ben knew that he could have fought at least some of them off, they had been too greatly outnumbered. Four of them against the Volturi hadn’t been great odds and Aro hadn’t even seemed to hesitate before killing Tia and extending his offer that Ben join them. Ben knew that he and the others hadn’t done anything wrong but Aro had made it clear that Amun and Kebi would share Tia’s fate if he didn’t agree to join them and Ben hadn’t been willing to lose the only family he’d had left. He had thought that his story would essentially end there and for a long time it had but watching over Quinn from afar at first and seeing the way she had stood up against her ex had reignited something inside of him. He had never thought that he would end up feeling something like this again let alone for a human girl who should be nothing more than a meal to him but Ben had forced himself to get used to her scent so that he could become a part of her life. He could be around her and ignore the burning in his throat now but it wasn’t enough. Ben knew that it was selfish to want to be with her given how different the two of them were but she had made him feel like he was really living again rather than merely existing and Ben didn’t want to keep his distance from her even though he knew that he should. He kept trying to rationalise it that by staying close to her he was making sure that she wasn’t in any danger from the Volturi but it was more than that. There was a part of him that wanted Quinn to know the real him and he knew that when she did she would probably run away from him screaming but it was becoming more and more difficult to keep secrets from her and he wasn’t sure that he wanted to any longer. “I mean it. Any time you need me, I’ll be there,” Ben assured her gently. Ben hadn’t made the conscious decision to take Quinn to the meadow but it was his favourite place and she had quickly become his favourite person so it only felt right to take her there. He was surprised that she hadn’t been there before but as far as he was concerned that just made it all the more special. The burn in his throat was still there and he knew that chances were it always would be but it was worth it to be around her. Ben knew that being his singer meant that he wanted her blood more than anyone else’s but the truth was that the thought of killing Quinn disturbed him. He loved her and he knew that it would destroy him if anything ever happened to her so he knew that he would do anything he had to in order to protect her. Even though he wanted her to know the real him he knew that he couldn’t just come out and tell her but she was also a part of the Quileute tribe and that was where the legends came in. “How so?” he prompted as Quinn said that he and two of her siblings had made her think about the legends. In a way he didn’t want her to find out because he knew that she was probably safer remaining in the dark but at the same time he hated keeping the truth from her. He had never found himself in that position before, he had never wanted to protect someone from his world so badly but at the same time also want them to be a part of it, so it really was an awful position to be in and he hated it. “There are other beaches nearby. I could show you sometime, if you like,” he offered, knowing that it would be easy enough to do so if Quinn hadn’t found them on her own yet. “The forest is a good place to think but it holds its own dangers. I hope you’ll be careful,” he said gently. There were a lot more vampires in the area than there had probably ever been before and even though the Volturi knew not to hunt so close to home, he wasn’t sure whether other vampires shared the same view. Quinn was definitely getting better over time and she’s actually happy that she is. She missed some of her favorite parts about La Push before the Volturri took it over. Of course, Quinn didn’t realize that the people on her peoples land are vampires but she has a feeling. The feeling comes from the fact that Quinn does believe the stories of her people since she always liked the supernatural even if she gets weird looks for it. Another reason is that Quinn remembers what her maternal grandparents would tell her about to look for signs. The major one is that she can feel the heat coming off of two of her siblings and she has a feeling about Ben being a vampire but doesn’t want to say anything to him about it. The feeling is more of she caught a glimpse of him moving just a tad too fast than a normal human. Quinn doesn’t know what to think about it but she mentally shook her head to clear it and to be in the moment with Ben. She listened to what he said and smiled at him. “I will definitely call you.” She was grateful for having him in her life and didn’t care that he is a vampire. The meadow was a great place and she knew that Quinn would come back to the meadow whenever she can. Especially after either school or her soccer practice. Quinn knew that she would have to start practicing again including her shots at the goal. She loved being active like this. Quinn heard him ask her a question and looked at him while trying to think of a way to explain it to a nonmember of the tribe. “How much of the legend do you know? The one about the Cold Ones and the spirit warriors.” She really needed to know so that she could explain it to him a bit about her thought process. Of course Quinn only has her thoughts of Ben being a Cold One and two of her siblings maybe being a spirit warrior. Quinn doesn’t actually know if it’s the truth since she never asked her siblings or even if what she thought was a figment of her imagination with Ben. She tuned back into the conversation with Ben and nodded her head “I would like that very much Ben,” which she truly would love to do that with Ben. She looked at him and wondered what he meant about the forest not being a safe place. “I will be careful Ben I promise you on that.” She has known these woods as best as any person that has lived in Forks for all their lives like she has so far.
